An impressive piece of work and a wonderful portrait of the personalities behind one of California's distinctive wine regions. And how fitting that like the wines, the book is big, bold, and vibrant.

Never before has such passionate and personal attention been given to the people that make Paso Robles wine country so successful. The introspective photography and impressively large format of Julia Perez's book will catch attention in every tasting room and dining table it graces. Because her images are bolstered by detailed biographies of each subject, all penned by Paul Hodgins, it will also serve as a time capsule of a young region at a critical moment in its history.

__________
The book is truly gorgeous. I’ve seen a lot of wine related coffee table style books but nothing that rivals the photography, layout, or appeal of this one. Julia is a remarkable talent. It was a joy to experience her art and eye.

Paul Hodgins and Julia Perez's "The Winemakers of Paso Robles" tells the stories behind the label of passionate, maverick vintners making wine on the California Central Coast. This gorgeous work of photography and prose is more than just a coffee table book, it's an enticing guide to the lively personalities, grape varietals, from cabernet to the wide range of Rhone varietals, and the scenic beauty that make Paso a unique wine growing region. You'll meet the pioneers, cult producers and new generation pushing the boundary on wine quality and winemaking techniques. The Winemakers is best enjoyed with a glass of Paso Robles grown and made wine.

Wine isn't just an expression of climate, soil, and grapes. Winemakers are the magicians who balance those elements, and this handsome volume with its stunning photos and brief biographies brings 56 winemakers of Paso Robles to life. It's an excellent way to get too know a California wine region that stands shoulder to shoulder with Napa and Sonoma.
--Rudy Maxa, travel journalist & host of the public television series, "Rudy Maxa's World."

Julia's Perez's book, "The Winemakers of Paso Robles" is as big as a dry-farmed Paso Robles Zinfandel. This is truly a beautiful book - the photography and lay-out are just stunning - but as significantly, the stories of the winemakers themselves are very well and sympathetically told. This is a must-have for passionate fans of this burgeoning wine region.

What a fantastic book! It has been done so artfully and captures the wine growing and wine making in Paso Robles. It is concise and easy reading giving the reader a background and insight to the individual winemakers. I was so captured by the book that I sat down and read the whole book in about 4 hours!

A Great Way To Learn About The Winemakers of Paso Robles. I received my copy via the Kickstarter program and got an advance look at the stunning photography and the opportunity to look at the behind the scenes stories that both keep the book alive. The winemakers are all such characters, and it clearly comes through in the writing. It was great to see my long time friend, Cris Cherry of Villa Creek in the book. I remember introducing Cris to wine of the Rhone, Languedoc and Roussillion back when he had an Early California style restaurant in Vista, California. Now he's making stunning wines from the same type of grapes that go into those.
This is easily a candidate for wine book of the year. If you're a fan of wines from the Central Coast and especially Paso Robles, or if you're planning a trip there, this book is an ideal read as a way to get to best know the region, as it will make your own exploration so much more enjoyable.

For The Love of Paso Wine. We come from a family of wine lovers, every palate obsessed with a different wine region around the world. When we caught a glimpse of the Kickstarter campaign to produce The Winemakers of Paso Robles, we were delighted to see our Central Californian vintners beautifully featured. Stunning photography, Julia Perez, captures each winemaker's grit and love for their craft. She wonderfully showcases this very special wine region with romantic contrast and magical light. We were engaged with each winemakers' story, leaving us with a sense of familiarity and insight.

Best Gift I've Ever Given. I bought the book for a lifelong pal who, with his wife, had spent a year in Paso Robles during a business related project three years ago. They fell heads over heels in love with the area and the people, especially the winemakers. They were ecstatic about the book when I gave it to them, but Mike told me this morning that he had read the whole thing and was amazed at how well it was written and photographed. And, he's going to read it again as soon as Nancy finishes it. If you're looking for the perfect gift for your oenophile friends, look no further!-- Al J.__________

__________
Great book of historic value for Paso Robles. This high quality book is very well done. While some reviewers find it "boring" or a "waste of money", I beg to differ. The Paso wine industry was founded and developed in my lifetime. The photography is stunning and the stories of each wine maker & winery that have made the Paso Robles area into a world class destination make the book a must have for me. We go often to the Paso area and have family members and good friends who own and work in the Paso wine industry, so those personal connections make it even more special. Kudos to the crafters of this book!
